Moving Safety Tips Everyone Should Know

Everybody knows that moving is such a painstaking process. It can be stressful, expensive and even potentially dangerous. This is especially true for someone doing it for the first time without any professional assistance.

If your budget allows, it is better to hire trusted Singapore movers to help you out. But if you opt for a DIY move, protecting yourself during your move is just as important as protecting all your belongings. If you are not careful, you might find yourself paying an unexpected visit to the nearest hospital.

So, to avoid injuries and make the moving process as safe as possible, we gathered some of the most important safety moving tips that you should keep in mind.

Don’t overpack

Avoid accidents by not overpacking your boxes. Moving boxes are designed to fit or carry a certain amount of things and overpacking can only result in problems like strain or injury on your back and other joints for carrying heavyweights. In general, a small moving box is good for 50 pounds, 65 pounds for a medium box and 70 pounds for a large box. Your extra-large boxes should be used for bulky items such as cushions and comforters because these boxes are meant for bulky items that are not too heavy to lift.

Wear suitable shoes and clothes

Moving is a lot easier when you’re wearing comfortable clothes and shoes. Your clothes should be able to stretch to allow you to allow unrestricted movement. Never wear baggy clothes because they may get hooked on something that could lead to accidents.

For footwear, wear shoes that provide a good level of support and grip. Be sure that they are comfortable and secure to move in such as sneakers or boots. Flimsy flip-flops or high heels impair your balance.

Wrap the sharp objects

If you just pack knives and other sharp objects without covering the sharper side, then you're making a mistake. Failing to wrap and secure sharp objects can go right through a box and into someone's hand when you unwrap.

To lower the chances of injury, protect yourself by wrapping the ends with packing paper and bubble wrap making sure no sharp edges pike through the box. For extra protection, these items must be wrapped in a dishtowel and secured with a rubber band.

Follow proper lifting technique

Moving large and bulky items is one of the most high-risk activities when moving. You should never lift more than you can because it can lead to serious injuries. When picking heavy loads, bend your knees - not your waist. Make sure you carry heavy items close to your body to maintain balance. Lastly, if you need to twist around while holding something heavy, do so with your hips and not your feet.

Use a moving dolly

When moving your large and heavy furniture without the help of movers Singapore, it is always safer to use a moving dolly. Using a moving dolly is a simple hack to make the entire process of transporting your items easier. You can purchase a moving dolly from a local hardware shop. If you are hiring Singapore movers, then you won’t have to rent since they will be the one to provide this piece of equipment to make your home move easier and safer.

Stretch throughout the day

Having tight and stiff muscles can make it easier to get injured or hurt during the moving process. Keep your body loose by making a point to stretch at least every day or a week before your moving day.

If you have a known problem area in your body, like your shoulders and knees, you must pay extra attention to that area to prevent and relieve any pain or discomfort.

Keep a clear pathway

Ensure all pathways and hallways are clear of floor litter and boxes to prevent trips and falls. You need to make sure that you can walk throughout the area without worrying about possible hazards that can compromise your safety. Also be sure to keep your outside areas, like your door pathways clear from mud and water that could hinder smooth transportation.

Following these tips helps you ensure not just your belongings safety but you and your family as well. Our final tip is to know when to call professional Singapore movers for a safer home move. I don't normally write reviews but they impressed me on the following: Came earlier than expected. Took care when moving things. Also did exceptionally fast given only 1 main mover since the other was on MC leave at last minute. Communication on WhatsApp was smooth. Also the price was better than the other quotes. Extremely happy I hired them, and very grateful they worked so hard given how many boxes I had. I have recommended them to all my friends.
