What are you moving?

Moving can be expensive and exhausting but on the upside, it’s the perfect opportunity for you to get rid of unnecessary stuff and make more room for your new belongings. Although letting go can be hard, you’re saving yourself money and time. Plus, the less stuff you move, the less you pay Singapore movers

If you are struggling with what to get rid of before your move, here are a few tips on what items to get rid of when moving.

Clothes that you haven’t worn for years

Moving is a perfect time to assess, organize and update your closet. If it doesn’t fit anymore or if you haven’t worn it in the past year you can donate it to a local charity or to those who are in need.

Children’s toys

Kids accumulate a lot of stuff. If your kids have grown up or moved out, choose a local donation centre in your location and donate toys that your children don’t love or play with anymore. Toy donations will bring happiness to other kids.

Small appliances

If a bread maker, spiralizer or hand mixer has been sitting there in one corner of your kitchen counter collecting dust for years, then you must get rid of it. If you have older appliances and gadgets you don’t use that are still in good working condition, sell them by hosting a garage sale or donate them to a charity.

Furniture

If you are downsizing, figure out what you need to do with your excess furniture. These heavy and big items can take up a lot of space inside the moving vehicle and moving them can be very expensive. If you are planning to redecorate your space, I strongly encourage you to sell or dispose your excess furniture to help you score some cash for your upcoming move.

Unused kitchenware

If you have got mismatched mugs, glasses or dishes, use moving as an opportunity to treat yourself and get a new set of dishes for your new place.

Linens and towels

Old linens and towels that are already faded and worn should be replaced. Furnish your new bathroom with fresh new towels so they will look polished when guests come to see your new digs.

Books you won’t re-read

Books and magazines can be very heavy to transport so moving your entire book collection won’t be a good idea. Any books that you have already read or never plan on reading should be donated to a local library or you can give them away to your friends - you can even write a note or message in the front to make it extra special.

Food Products

Packed food products are the most common things found during the decluttering process. Check how much food you still have in your pantry and dispose of anything that is past expiration. Share perfectly good fruit and veggies with your neighbours. The same goes for your minibar if you are not planning to bring your open handle of champagne or your pack of beer, donate it to your neighbours.
